M'sian student, 14, dies after being found unconscious at school hostel, police treating case as murder

A 14-year-old Malaysian student, Muhammad Idlan Fareeq Shahril, passed away after being found unconscious at his school hostel on September 25. Police have labeled his death as murder and arrested a 16-year-old student for assistance in the investigation. The teenager, a Form Two student at a sports school in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan, was taken to Hospital Tuanku Ampuan Najihah, where he was declared dead.

A post-mortem examination is set to be conducted at Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar in Seremban. Police Chief Alzafny Ahmad revealed that the incident likely occurred around 8pm at the hostel, and his team is probing the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. They are also investigating potential motives behind the incident.

Police have urged the public not to speculate or share unverified information, as it could hinder investigations and infringe upon the privacy of the family. Earlier, allegations of bullying surfaced online, citing a social media post claiming the student died after being assaulted and bullied at the hostel. However, these allegations have not been confirmed, and ongoing police investigations are probing the details.

Local political figures, including Kuala Pilah Member of Parliament Adnan Abu Hassan and former Education Minister Mohd Radzi Jidin, have called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation to honor the deceased and his family. In response to the incident, Malaysia's Education Ministry has pledged to collaborate with the police and conduct a thorough review of the school to ensure proper procedures were followed.

The ministry also urged the public to refrain from speculating about the case while the investigation remains active.
