UPSA uncovers mass results manipulation involving 178 students, over 500 results compromised

The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has exposed a significant case of academic results manipulation, involving 178 students and altering over 500 academic records within the university's system. Vice Chancellor Prof Kwaku Mensah Mawutor addressed this during the university's 18th Graduation Ceremony, describing it as an unfortunate and serious incident.

Mawutor alleged that some students and individuals breached the university's system, manipulating the academic results. Investigations identified the perpetrators, revealing that "over 500 results were changed by 178 students." Some students confessed to paying others to alter their results, while others admitted to receiving money from their peers to facilitate the manipulation.

Prof Mawutor emphasized the unacceptable nature of such actions, particularly for an institution like UPSA. He further stated that some of the implicated students were scheduled to graduate during the 18th Graduation Ceremony; however, their graduations were indefinitely postponed to allow for ongoing investigations and disciplinary procedures.

Mawutor noted that while similar incidents had occurred before, the scale of the latest case was unprecedented. He praised the Information Systems and Technology Directorate (ISTD) team and the investigative committee for their role in uncovering the manipulation and identifying those involved.
