Unmanned fishing boat leads to discovery of 74-year-old fisherman’s body in Melaka

KUALA LUMPUR, September 26 — A 74-year-old fisherman named Mohammad Chalip was discovered dead on the shore in Padang Temu yesterday, following the observation of an unmanned fishing boat by a security guard. The Melaka Tengah district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Halim Abas, revealed that the police were informed of the discovery via a MERS 999 call at approximately 11:13am.

Mohammad's body was found lying face down near the shoreline, opposite the 8 Residence on Jalan Residen in Taman Padang Temu. Halim disclosed in a statement that the victim was a fisherman hailing from the Sungai Duyong jetty, and was well-known in the local fishing community.

According to a security guard stationed at 8 Residence, the unmanned fishing boat was spotted during a routine patrol at around 10:30am. The guard promptly continued his rounds before coming across Mohammad, who lay face down along the shore. Halim further shared that the victim's son had informed the police that his father had left their home at about 7am to proceed with his usual routine of casting fishing nets at sea. The police were also made aware of Mohammad's condition, as he suffered from high blood pressure.

It has been determined that the case is classified as a sudden death. The police confirmed that the body has been claimed by Mohammad's family for burial.
