Unmanned fishing boat leads to discovery of 74-year-old fisherman’s body in Melaka

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — A 74-year-old fisherman named Mohammad Chalip was discovered dead on a shoreline in Padang Temu following the sighting of an unmanned fishing boat by a security guard. The Melaka Tengah district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Halim Abas, reported the discovery was made via a MERS 999 call around 11:13 am.

The body of Mohammad, who was found lying face down near the shoreline opposite 8 Residence along Jalan Residen in Taman Padang Temu, was identified as belonging to a fisherman from the Sungai Duyong jetty. Assistant Commissioner Halim disclosed that Mohammad was a well-known figure among fishermen in the area. Security personnel at 8 Residence noted that an unmanned fishing boat was observed during a patrol at approximately 10:30 am before Mohammad's body was found.

Mohammad's son informed the police that his father left their residence at around 7 am as part of his regular routine of casting fishing nets at sea. The police were also informed that Mohammad suffered from high blood pressure. The case has been classified as a sudden death. Mohammad's family has claimed the body for burial.
