Trump rejects Iran’s 7-day peace proposal, war likely to resume after US polls

Iran presented a seven-day peace proposal to the United States on Friday, with the aim of reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the conflict across the Middle East. The plan, conveyed through Qatar, would halt hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon, and require the US to lift the blockade on Iranian ports, release frozen Iranian funds, and waive oil sanctions.

However, the proposal reportedly met with skepticism from US President Donald Trump, who is believed to doubt Iran's willingness to comply with the demands despite agreeing to the peace deal. The seven-day countdown for the plan to take effect begins once Washington accepts the offer. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, had conveyed the proposal to the US, stating that if the necessary conditions are met, both sides could move to wider talks on mutually agreed subjects, potentially including Iran's nuclear program.

The conflict, which began on February 28, has resulted in thousands of casualties, weakened Iran's conventional forces, and further damaged its economy. The crisis has also spread beyond Iran's borders, with Iran's allies striking US allies in the Gulf and Houthi forces targeting Saudi interests.
