Rapid KL begins rollout of platform safety barriers on Kelana Jaya, Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT lines

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 — Rapid KL has commenced installing platform safety barriers on the Kelana Jaya and Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT lines, starting at Putra Heights station, where the project is now 85 per cent complete, according to a recent statement. The initiative aims to enhance passenger safety and overall travel experience within Rapid KL's rail network.

Work began on August 1, with Putra Heights chosen as the inaugural station for the project, serving as a benchmark for subsequent rollout phases. The decision to begin with Putra Heights was influenced by its status as an interchange station for both the Kelana Jaya and Ampang/Sri Petaling LRT lines, allowing for the evaluation of the design, installation process, and operational requirements prior to expanding the project to additional stations.

Among the measures being implemented to bolster passenger safety, the newly installed barriers at Putra Heights LRT station have already been observed. These safety barriers are positioned along the tracks, providing a secure environment for passengers awaiting their trains. Prostran Group's Prasarana Group chief operating officer for strategy and development, Dr Prodyut Dutt, who also serves as the acting group president and chief executive officer, emphasized the importance of passenger safety.

He stated that the installation of platform safety barriers represents a proactive step in bolstering safety measures at stations and instilling greater confidence among passengers when boarding trains. While Rapid KL has not disclosed the total number of stations set to receive the barriers or provided a specific timeline for the broader rollout, the initiative underscores its commitment to ensuring a safe and comfortable travel experience for its passengers.
