TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh’s car attacked in Uttarpara ahead of Mamata’s Hooghly rally

On September 26, 2026, former West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mamata Banerjee alleged that her party leaders were under "house arrest" and prevented from attending a rally in Serampore. Her claim was that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers had blocked the route to the event venue. Banerjee, the head of the Mamata All India Trinamool Congress, stated that she was not allowed to leave for the rally and challenged the police and the BJP government to stop her.

"We have been kept under house arrest. I am not allowed to go to the venue of the rally. But I will go and address the rally. Stop me if you can," she declared.

The BJP goons had allegedly taken over the route to the rally venue, according to Banerjee, with no police personnel present. She alleged that the police and administration had turned a blind eye to the situation. The rally was permitted by the court, and Banerjee maintained that its smooth functioning was the responsibility of the police and administration. However, she claimed that the police had failed in their duty.

Banerjee further accused the BJP of unleashing terror on the streets, comparing the atrocities to those seen in African countries. She questioned why the ruling BJP was allowing such terror to occur, especially considering that UP and Bihar, also ruled by the BJP, had not experienced such incidents. The TMC claimed that its leaders and workers were targeted while traveling to the rally venue, with one such instance involving TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh.

His car was allegedly surrounded by a group carrying black flags in Uttarpara, Hooghly district, who hurled eggs and stones at Ghosh's vehicle, as per party sources.

The TMC has consistently blamed BJP supporters for these incidents, while the BJP has denied such allegations.
