Sonakshi Sinha recalls telling father Shatrughan about Zaheer Iqbal: ‘Your dad will not agree’

Sonakshi Sinha, like many Indian women, faced difficulty discussing her relationship with her father, Shatrughan Sinha. When she had to inform him of her marriage to Zaheer Iqbal, she revealed, "It took me some time." Initially, she confided in her mother, who cautioned, "Your dad will not agree." This fear of rejection lingered as she revealed her love for Zaheer to her father.

The father initially questioned her for delaying the news, "Why did you wait so long?" He wanted to know his son-in-law's identity and occupation, learning that he was a well-known figure in the news. Despite the initial reluctance, the emotional bond between father and daughter proved impactful, as Neha Cadabam, a senior psychologist, explained that a father's voice can provide emotional safety and validation, which aids in a daughter's personal growth and risk-taking.

Modern times have seen a shift in fatherhood, with fathers becoming more emotionally present, thanks to increased awareness of child psychology, changing gender roles, and women's workforce participation.
