Sanwo-Olu’s wife urges patience over trash collection delays

The wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged residents to be patient regarding delays in waste collection. During a monthly environmental sanitation exercise in Mafoluku, Oshodi-Isolo LGA, some residents complained about the lack of regular pickups by Private Sector Participation operators. The First Lady acknowledged issues such as increased charges by PSP operators and long queues at dumpsites, but emphasized that the government is working on a new strategy for waste disposal.

She urged residents to remain patient, describing the situation as a "teething problem" that would be resolved over time. Sanwo-Olu also commended residents for bagging their waste and noted that a waste truck was already removing refuse from the area. The First Lady called for better waste separation, as mixed materials often hinder recycling efforts.

Schoolchildren were included in the sanitation exercise to instill environmental consciousness early on. According to Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, public awareness and participation have significantly increased since the monthly sanitation exercise began. Residents are now actively cleaning their homes and streets, reflecting progress in changing attitudes toward environmental responsibility.
