Penggantungan PN tak jejas PAS, kata penganalisis

Analyst Mazlan Ali suggests that the suspension of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) by the Joint Public Legal Assistance Committee (JPPM) could significantly impact PAS outside the states of Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Perlis (SG4). Speaking to FMT, he states that while PAS is strong enough to compete with its own logo, Wawasan, the new party led by Hamzah Zainudin, is still unfamiliar to voters in Melaka.

JPPM's decision to suspend PN, which came after Bersatu lodged a complaint, aims to protect the interests of the registered body, and not to cancel the registration of PN. However, Azmi Hassan from Nusantara Academy notes that the development may complicate the dialogue between Umno and PAS, as Umno seems to be more closely involved with PAS overall.

On Thursday, Barisan Nasional (BN) Secretary-General Zahid Hamidi said that some PN components may return to competing with their own logos in the Melaka PRN and upcoming general election (PRU). James Chin, a political analyst from the University of Tasmania, agrees that the suspension of PN will not weaken the race between PAS and Umno.

But he emphasizes that the bigger issue now is whether PAS can maintain the integrity of the coalition, as PN is currently being managed by PAS Deputy Chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. If PAS fails to ensure the continued existence of this alliance, its registration could be canceled, and Malaysia would lose another political alliance, he adds.

Syaza Shukri, an analyst from the International Islamic University Malaysia, believes that the suspension puts PN at a disadvantage in its race against BN. Before the suspension, there were rumors that BN and PN would work together to face the Melaka PRN. However, PN's situation is now seen as somewhat uncertain.
