Penggantungan PN tak jejas PAS, kata penganalisis

An analyst named Mazlan Ali suggests that the suspension of Perikatan Nasional (PN) by the Joint Registration Commission (JPPM) could have a noticeable impact on PAS in the states of SG4, which include Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, and Perlis. In an interview with FMT, Mazlan noted that PAS is strong enough to compete using its own symbol, but Wawasan, the party led by Hamzah Zainudin, is relatively new and unfamiliar to voters in Melaka.

Both parties do not have any other options but to compete under their respective symbols. The Joint Registration Commission (JPPM) suspended PN on Wednesday, a day after issuing a notice citing complaints from Bersatu. The commission explained that the move aimed to protect the corporation's interests and not to cancel the registration of PN.

However, Mazlan believes that the suspension might not prevent a discussion between Umno and PAS, as Umno appears to be more engaged with PAS than with PN overall. On Thursday, Barisan Nasional (BN) leader Zahid Hamidi said that PN components may return to competing with their respective logos in the Melaka PRN and the upcoming general election.

James Chin, a political analyst from the University of Tasmania, agreed that the PN suspension would not undermine the discussion between PAS and Umno. The bigger concern, however, is whether PAS can maintain the unity of the coalition, given that PN is now being led by PAS deputy president Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar. "If PAS fails to ensure this unity remains intact, its registration will be canceled and Malaysia will lose another political alliance," he added.

Syaza Shukri, an analyst from the International University of Malaysia, also expressed concern that the suspension could challenge the position of PN in the BN discussion for the Melaka PRN. Prior to the suspension, there were rumors that BN and PN would cooperate to face the Melaka PRN. "However, at this stage, the situation with PN appears somewhat uncertain," Mazlan noted.

However, political analyst from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Mazlan Ali, believes the suspension could still impact PAS in the SG4 states due to the difficulties PAS faces in gaining support, especially among non-Malay voters, as the PAS symbol is hard to rally behind. The Melaka by-election was called off on Wednesday, paving the way for the PRN to be held, while PN suspensions came into effect the following day.
