Over 86pc of Perlis patients seen within an hour under digital medical record pilot, says Fahmi

Over 86% of patients in Perlis were seen by a doctor within an hour during a four-month pilot of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil. The system, implemented under the National Digital Health Ecosystem and Connectivity Driver (Persada) initiative, also showed that 62.8% of patients were able to see a doctor within 30 minutes.

The project has benefited over 200,000 patients in the state, and Fahmi has received feedback suggesting improvements for safe and easy operation by Health Ministry staff. The system allows doctors to access patient records quickly, as they are stored in the cloud. The ministry plans to expand the system to other states, but first needs to assess factors such as internet connectivity.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) stated that Persada would facilitate smoother sharing of health information and support the 'One Individual, One Health Record' aspiration, enabling seamless continuity of care across different health facilities and reducing waiting times. Cross-ministerial cooperation between the Communications Ministry and the Health Ministry will strengthen service delivery and digital connectivity, with MCMC integrating telehealth services through 17 National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) in Perlis, aiming to make healthcare more accessible nationwide.
