Liverpool could have one of the Premier League's best wonderkids

Liverpool possesses a reputation for cultivating exceptional young talents, with many of their first-team squad members being graduates of the club’s Kirkby academy. Andoni Iraola, the Reds’ academy boss, continues this tradition by nurturing promising youngsters. Trey Nyoni, James McConnell, and Rio Ngumoha are among the academy graduates who have played for Iraola this season.

However, the standout prospect in the squad is 21-year-old Lewis Koumas. The forward has already made 110 minutes' appearances for the Reds this campaign, demonstrating impressive skills, particularly his relentless pressing.

Although still on the fringes of Liverpool’s first team, Koumas has become a crucial player for the Welsh national team, earning 13 caps and starting for them against Portugal on Thursday night. The midfielder nearly scored but was denied by a goal-line clearance from Manchester City’s Ruben Dias. BBC Sport's Ian Mitchelmore commended Koumas' work-rate and remarked on the significant improvement in his ball control over the past year.

Liverpool manager Craig Bellamy echoed the praise, stating that Koumas belongs at Anfield and is outstanding.

While Koumas is not yet ready to replace regular starters at Liverpool, his rapid development suggests he will soon move beyond the fringe player status. If he can maintain this progress, he could soon become one of Wales' top stars, earning even greater trust from Iraola.
