Hurricane Nolo expected to unleash powerful winds, flash flooding on Hawaii

Hurricane Nolo is forecasted to bring strong winds, heavy rain, and flash flooding to Hawaii over the weekend, as it approaches the islands still recovering from Hurricane Lala. The storm's center was around 145 miles south of Hawaii's southernmost point on Saturday and could intensify into a potentially catastrophic storm. Forecasters have cautioned of possible flooding and mudslides, with the Big Island expected to receive up to 20 inches of rainfall.

Michael Brennan, director of the National Hurricane Center, advised against venturing into the dangerous conditions caused by flooding and high winds. President Trump approved an emergency declaration for Hawaii, allowing FEMA to coordinate assistance and fund emergency measures. Residents have been advised to prepare emergency kits and consider seeking shelter.

Meanwhile, Mexico prepares for Hurricane Polo, which is heading towards the Baja California peninsula after causing storm conditions along the southwestern coast. The storm's maximum sustained winds are currently 155 mph, but it is expected to weaken before making landfall on Monday. San Juanico, a small fishing community in Mexico, is particularly concerned about the storm, as access to basic needs has been limited.
