Hurricane Nolo expected to unleash powerful winds, flash flooding on Hawaii

Hurricane Nolo is expected to bring strong winds and flash flooding to Hawaii over the weekend, as it approaches areas still recovering from previous storms. The Category 3 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph (165 kph), is currently located about 145 miles (235 kilometers) south of the Big Island's southernmost point.

Forecasters warn of potential flooding, mudslides, and power outages, with some parts of the Big Island expecting up to 20 inches (51 centimeters) of rainfall. Residents have been urged to prepare emergency kits and seek shelter, as the state has declared a state of emergency and activated National Guard members. Meanwhile, Mexico faces the threat of Hurricane Polo, which is currently producing maximum sustained winds of 155 mph (249 kph) and is expected to gradually weaken before making landfall on Monday.
