Fishlock breaks Rapinoe’s Reign scoring record in 2-0 win over the Legacy

Jess Fishlock achieved a significant milestone by scoring two goals, breaking Megan Rapinoe’s Seattle Reign career goal-scoring record, during the Reign’s 2-0 victory over the Boston Legacy on Friday night. Jess, who has been with the Reign since the league’s inaugural season in 2013, netted her first goal in the 23rd minute through a long-range shot, bringing her total career goals to 51. She added her 52nd goal in the 64th minute with another strike from outside the box.

The Reign goalkeeper, Claudia Dickey, made seven crucial saves throughout the game, contributing to her seventh clean sheet this season. The Reign dominated the match, securing five shutout victories at Lumen Field this season. However, Boston’s loss marked their first scoreless game since May 30, ending their playoff contention after a 13-game span without a score.

In the other National Women’s Soccer League matchups, Gotham FC defeated the Chicago Stars 3-1, while the San Diego Wave claimed a 2-0 victory over Racing Louisville. Gotham FC’s Jaedyn Shaw and Sam Kerr led the charge, with Kerr also contributing to the win in the 50th minute. The Stars, who have lost five consecutive matches, were eliminated from playoff contention following the defeat.
