As Dallas Mavericks training camp kicks off next Tuesday, star guard Kyrie Irving reflected on his decision to stay with the team in a candid interview with The Smoking Cuban. In an era of significant organizational upheaval, Irving acknowledged the turbulence Dallas has faced over the past two years. "I was talking to my family about this yesterday, just reminiscing on the change in the last few years and how it's impacted me and how it's impacted just Dallas in general and this fandom," Irving stated.

"I'm not going to shy away from saying it's been a little chaotic at times, inside the locker room as well as outside."

The Maverick's roster shifts have been substantial. The team traded away Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2025 trade deadline, followed by the blockbuster deal that shipped Davis to the Washington Wizards. Despite the changes, Irving remains committed to the franchise. He explained his attachment to the Mavericks, crediting the welcoming environment cultivated by both the organization and the passionate fan base. "I'm in love with this place just because of how welcoming it was, not just from the franchise but also the fans, lot of support around the city," he said. They lean on me for leadership, I lean on them for energy and vice versa and we're just putting the past where it is and honestly, reminiscing when it's time to do that but making sense of it moving forward is just having a championship mindset that whatever we face we can deal with."
