Colin Simmons ties program-record with 5 sacks as No. 1 Texas beats No. 14 Tennessee 20-17

Knoxville, Tenn. (AP) — Colin Simmons set a program record with five sacks as No. 1 Texas edged No. 14 Tennessee 20-17 in the SEC opener, with President Donald Trump in attendance for Texas' first visit to Neyland Stadium. Raleek Brown rushed for 67 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-clinching 4-yard run with five minutes left.

Giannis Spetic contributed with two field goals. Texas dominated on defense, racking up 10 sacks led by Simmons. The sophomore linebacker's five sacks broke the school record and drew a penalty for simulating using the restroom. Tennessee quarterback Brandon Faizon connected with Mike Matthews for a 30-yard touchdown on an 80-yard strike to end the game.

Linebacker Arion Carter recovered the onside kick, and Jelani McDonald intercepted Mike's next pass in the end zone. Arch Manning made his first trip to Knoxville, where his uncle Peyton played for Tennessee in the 1990s, completing 201 yards while being sacked six times and throwing an interception. Texas committed 11 penalties for 115 yards, with seven in the first half.

Tennessee, averaging 516.3 yards per game nationally, struggled against the Longhorns' stifling defense.
