Bongo MP challenges NPP to provide evidence of illicit drug manufacturing in Ghana

Bongo Member of Parliament Charles Bawaduah has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to present evidence of illicit drug manufacturing in Ghana if they possess any. This demand comes as recent cocaine seizures have sparked public debate over Ghana's involvement in the illegal drug trade. In an interview on GBC's Current Agenda on September 26, 2026, Bawaduah urged the NPP to submit any credible information about drug production to the security forces for investigation.

He emphasized that drug-related issues should not be used for political gain and must be addressed with integrity and responsibility. Bawaduah stressed that drug trafficking poses significant threats to national security and public health, and thus requires collaboration among political parties and state institutions. He affirmed that bodies like the Narcotics Control Commission, Ghana Police Service, and other intelligence agencies have the authority to investigate such matters upon receiving reliable information.

While acknowledging the security agencies' recent successes in intercepting and seizing suspected narcotics, Bawaduah warned against political actors exploiting drug seizures to score points or accuse the state of involvement without substantiation. He urged all political parties to work with the security agencies in combating drug-related crime, as unsubstantiated allegations could erode public trust in the institutions tasked with maintaining national security.
