“We found something never seen before” – A dead star is producing a shock wave that shouldn’t exist

A dead white dwarf with no detectable disk has somehow produced a powerful shock wave that appears to have persisted for at least 1,000 years. Its magnetic field may be partly responsible, but astronomers say an unexplained “mystery engine” may also be at work.

We haven't written up this one. ScienceDaily has the full story — the link below goes straight to it.

Scientists gave worms magnetic bacteria. They lived 43% longer

A magnet-producing bacterium extended the average lifespan of C. elegans worms by more than 43% while helping protect their neurological and intestinal health.

  • Magnetotactic bacteria Magnetospirillum magneticum AMB-1 prolonged worm lifespan
  • Caenorhabditis elegans lived 43.39% longer with bacterial intervention
  • Ferroptosis suppression and magnetosome production linked to longevity effect
