Several mayors bow out of fall’s municipal elections

Several mayors in western Manitoba have decided not to run for re-election in the upcoming municipal elections on October 28. In Dauphin, Mayor David Bosiak will not seek another term after serving one full term. The race for the mayoral position is now a three-way contest between Coun. Steve Sobering and new candidates Keith Durston and Carter Taylor-Luke.

Neepawa's Mayor Brian Hedley has also opted out, marking his final year in office after serving one term as mayor and another as councillor. This leaves Coun. Darryl Gerrard to be chosen as the new mayor. In Boissevain-Morton, Mayor Judy Swanson is not running for re-election after two terms as mayor and one term as councillor. This results in a competitive race between Coun. Rob Adams and new candidate Terry Lucier.

In Riverdale, Mayor Heather Lamb has decided not to run for re-election after serving just one term. Coun. Ian Dyer has been acclaimed as the new mayor. Riverdale's six council seats will be contested by seven candidates, with three councillors seeking re-election and four new candidates. Minnedosa's Mayor Ken Cameron faces off against new candidate Thomas Mathews for the town's six councillor seats; three councillors are seeking re-election, while five are new candidates.

Carberry's Mayor Ray Muirhead and Souris-Glenwood's Mayor Duane Davison have both been acclaimed for another term. In Virden, Mayor Tina Williams is contesting re-election against Coun. Bruce Dunning. Eight candidates are vying for five council seats; four councillors are seeking re-election, and four are new candidates. In Killarney-Turtle Mountain, Mayor Janice Smith is in a race against Merv Tweed, with nine new candidates seeking council positions and two councillors seeking re-election.
