Saudi Grand Mufti tells troops to be ready to sacrifice their lives fighting Houthis

Saudi Arabia's most senior religious figure has urged its military to stand ready to make the ultimate sacrifice in their fight against the Iran-backed Houthis, according to a statement released by the kingdom's official news agency. The Mufti's urgent appeal was made to troops stationed along the kingdom's borders and drew upon sacred Islamic texts and the Prophet Muhammad's teachings related to selflessness and defense of God's faith.

The call for readiness follows weeks of heightened tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, as the latter group has launched missile and drone assaults on the kingdom, while Saudi forces have retaliated with airstrikes. As the violence persists, observers are speculating whether Saudi Arabia may eventually engage in a wider military operation alongside the Yemeni government forces it supports.
