Ogun 2027: APC twisting Supreme Court judgment to stop Iyabo Obasanjo – PDP chieftain

A PDP chieftain has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of spreading misinformation regarding Senator Iyabo Obasanjo's eligibility to contest the 2027 Ogun Central Senatorial election. Adeoye Adewale Adeniran, the PDP House of Assembly candidate for Abeokuta South Constituency 2, stated that reports claiming the Supreme Court had disqualified Obasanjo are "misleading, legally speculative and politically motivated."

Adeniran urged the public to disregard such claims, noting that the Supreme Court upheld the validity of certain Electoral Act 2026 provisions in a September 24, 2026, judgment. Adeniran maintained that the judgment did not name Obasanjo or order her disqualification from the 2027 election, emphasizing that she is not a party to the judicial dispute between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The PDP candidate further argued that the Supreme Court case stemmed from a disagreement between INEC and a political party, and that Obasanjo, who is a member of the PDP, was not involved. Adeniran challenged critics to identify the specific sections of the Supreme Court judgment that mention Obasanjo or impose a disqualification.

He claimed that the development suggests the APC is growing increasingly anxious about the PDP's rising political influence ahead of the 2027 elections. Adeniran added that PDP candidates across Ogun State are prepared to offer residents a credible alternative to the years of hardship and suffering under the APC.
