Newsom says Trump presidency ‘as we know it’ ends in November

Newsom, who is seen as a leading contender for his party's 2028 presidential bid, did not elaborate on how a Democratic victory would effectively put an end to Trump's presidency. However, he emphasized that if Republicans lose control of one or both houses of Congress, Democrats can curb the president's expansive agenda. While acknowledging that Trump still holds considerable power, Newsom insisted that climate change is a significant concern that should be framed in terms of everyday issues, such as grocery prices, home insurance, and national security.

The Governor argued that climate action and economic growth are mutually beneficial, using California as an example of a state that has been running on 100% clean energy for most days of the year. He criticized Trump and congressional Republicans for attempting to overturn California's green rules, including scrapping plans to phase out gasoline cars and paying companies to abandon offshore wind projects.

Newsom criticized the political landscape, stating that old rules no longer apply and that candidates must bring something unique to the table. He dismissed concerns about identity politics and emphasized the importance of providing a distinctive voice, experience, and perspective. He also dismissed AOC's comments about her potential bid, asserting that a woman can win the Democratic nomination.
