NDLEA dismantles suspected Nigerian-Mexican drug network, busts Meth Lab in Enugu

Two top suspects, Chukwu Obumneme Christopher and Chukwu Georginus Monday, have been arrested in Nigeria as part of a major operation against a transnational drug trafficking network with connections to Mexico. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) uncovered a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Enugu State, suggesting the syndicate was established to produce methamphetamine on an industrial scale.

The suspects, identified as Brown and George, were charged with conspiracy, organization, management and financing of a drug trafficking organization, as well as unlawful possession of precursor chemicals used in methamphetamine production. The operation, which involved months of intelligence gathering and surveillance, also recovered large quantities of chemicals such as methylamine, isopropyl alcohol, hydrochloric acid, toluene, acetone, liquid sodium hydroxide, and other controlled substances.

The seized materials, in combination and quantities, indicate a high-potency P2P-based methamphetamine manufacturing operation. Three other suspects, Uchenna, Celestine Ikemefuna Iwuchukwu, and Villanueva, remain at large. The NDLEA's Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, emphasized the agency's commitment to preventing international drug syndicates from establishing operational bases in Nigeria, warning that the country would not be a haven for transnational drug networks.

This operation highlights Nigeria's ongoing efforts to combat sophisticated clandestine drug manufacturing activities.
