Motorcycle used to ferry gunman in murder of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu recovered

The investigation into the murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu has uncovered a significant breakthrough - the recovery of the motorcycle allegedly used to transport the gunman to the crime scene. This development follows the arrest of three suspects, with Nicholas Lemiso Naula, a boda boda rider, being charged with transporting the assailant on the day of the attack.

During questioning, Naula identified the motorcycle by its registration number, KMGL 516L, which was subsequently located after a thorough investigation traced its ownership through several individuals. The motorcycle was later handed over to the Homicide Office for further examination. The recovery of this crucial piece of evidence bolsters the growing body of evidence collected by detectives, including the arrest of the suspected gunman and two other boda boda riders, as well as other motorcycles allegedly used in the investigation.

As they piece together the events leading up to Mbobu's murder, police are determined to establish the full circumstances of the killing, identify all individuals involved, and bring the suspects to justice. In a related development, the Chief Magistrate's Court granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) an additional 15 days to hold four suspects linked to the murder, pending further investigations.

The suspects, Julias Cheruiyot, Nicholas Naula Lemiso, Noah Kipkurui Langat, and Kennedy Kipkemei, were each ordered to be held at different police stations in Nairobi. Mbobu, a prominent city lawyer at Kyalo and Associates in Nairobi's Central Business District, was fatally shot on September 9, 2025, while driving his white Toyota Land Cruiser near Brookhouse International School in Lang'ata.

He was reportedly ambushed by armed attackers on a motorcycle, who opened fire before fleeing the scene. Police found bullet fragments and ballistic evidence at the crime scene, as well as a spent cartridge and additional fragments in Mbobu's vehicle, which were sent to the government ballistic laboratory for forensic analysis. An autopsy conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor confirmed that Mbobu died from multiple gunshot wounds, suffering eight bullet injuries to his upper body and neck.
