Zelensky reacts to attack at Polish Benedictine convent: Shocked by this evil

On Thursday, a man wielding a knife from a kitchen at a Benedictine monastery in Jaroslaw, southern Poland, killed a priest and injured four others, including three clergy members and two laypeople. One victim tragically lost their life. The attacker, identified as a 31-year-old Ukrainian man, was promptly apprehended by authorities.

The motives behind the assault remain undisclosed. Local media reported the incident occurred on the abbey grounds in Jaroslaw. Sister Barbara Dendor, a nun at the monastery, described the scene as one of chaos and panic. The mayor of Jaroslaw declared a week-long period of mourning. Polish President Karol Nawrocki extended condolences to the priest's family and expressed hope for the injured to recover swiftly, emphasizing the importance of upholding community values in the face of such heinous acts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also condemned the crime, describing it as horrific and sending his deepest condolences to the victim's family, wishing the injured a speedy recovery. Police are currently investigating the motive behind the attack.
