Garbage collection revamp hits hurdle as only six bidders accept work orders

Garbage collection reform efforts in Bengaluru have hit a setback after only six out of 21 bidders accepted the work orders approved by the State Cabinet, according to Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited sources. The issue stems from eight packages being challenged in court, while the remaining seven accepted packages were subsequently re-tendered.

BSWML CEO Karee Gowda explained the challenges, stating that despite the new rules mandating GPS tracking and increased vehicle capacities, the reform process has encountered obstacles. The agency had initially planned to cover 28 Assembly constituencies with 33 waste collection packages but now faces uncertainty following the court challenges.
