Volta Region will become a mining hub but no galamsey – Togbe Afede

The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, has expressed confidence that the Volta Region possesses significant mineral resources capable of becoming a major mining hub. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Volta Economic Forum in Ho, Togbe Afede emphasized the importance of responsible mining while discouraging illegal activities.

The Volta Region's potential for attracting investment and becoming a mining region was highlighted as efforts are underway to discover and exploit its natural resources. Togbe Afede commended institutions and individuals, such as the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, and others like Azorli, Ahiafor, and Dr Afetorgbor, for their dedication to the region's development.

He also outlined plans for infrastructure development, including the establishment of a Green City and the construction of high-quality residential facilities near the Ho Airport. Collaboration among various stakeholders is crucial for effective resource mobilization and achieving the well-being of citizens, according to Togbe Afede.

He stressed the significance of initiatives like the Volta Economic Forum in fulfilling the requirements of the 1992 Constitution, which emphasizes the proper management of the country's resources for the benefit of its citizens. Togbe Afede's company, African World Airline, faced limitations in operating the Accra-Ho route due to the runway's length at the Ho Airport.

However, President Mahama has assured that the runway will be extended in the future, allowing larger aircraft to land safely.
