Ukraine sends two captured North Korean soldiers to South Korea

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun pledged ongoing assistance for Ukraine during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart in New York, according to Seoul's foreign ministry. The bilateral talks occurred on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, as highlighted by a ministry release. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on the same day at the U.N. gathering that his nation had recently transferred two North Korean soldiers, captured by Ukrainian forces, to South Korea.

Although the release did not mention Zelenskyy's comments, the ministry emphasized Cho's commitment to providing the necessary support for the Ukrainian people. Earlier, South Korea had announced a $100 million non-lethal aid package to Ukraine, which was discussed at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization summit in Ankara in July.

In addition to his meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Cho also engaged in separate discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi that same day. Cho stressed the importance of ensuring unimpeded and secure passage for vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, noting that South Korea has previously taken part in such efforts.
