PN’s suspension speaks volumes about the coalition

PN's suspension by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) exposes deep divisions within the coalition. The 30-day deadline to save its legal status lays bare the structural fractures that have been ignored. Bitter internal conflicts between Bersatu and PAS, along with Bersatu's exclusion from key meetings and negotiations, have poisoned the internal diplomacy.

This crisis falls on PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who failed to resolve the issues before the RoS intervened, raising questions about his leadership. The coalition's deference to PAS advisers, at the expense of sound strategy, shows a lack of political maturity. PAS has diversified its alliances, leaving Bersatu increasingly isolated.

Without a coalition to support it, Bersatu faces political oblivion. The fractured PN cannot present itself as a stable alternative to the ruling government when it cannot manage its own affairs. This self-sabotage allows Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration to portray the opposition as too chaotic to govern. With activities frozen, PN is paralyzed, unable to rally or coordinate. Forced to shift to the courtroom, the opposition's credibility remains in jeopardy.
