Troops ambush suspected Boko Haram members, arrest two

The Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, conducted a night ambush in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State on September 21, 2026, in an effort to apprehend suspected Boko Haram terrorists. The operation, which took place between September 15 and 22, 2026, resulted in the arrest of four suspected terrorists. Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, announced the arrests in a statement on Tuesday.

During the ambush, conducted by troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, the terrorists engaged in a firefight, causing some to flee. The military discovered blood traces near the scene, suggesting that the fleeing suspects may have sustained injuries during the encounter.

Items recovered during the operation included four bicycles, groceries, one sheep, and expended 7.62mm special ammunition cases. The arrested suspects and recovered items have been handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation. On a separate occasion, on September 19, nine suspected drug dealers were arrested during a routine patrol in Buni Yadi, Gujba LGA.

The suspects were found in possession of suspected illicit drugs, cannabis, two mobile phones, and N85,900 cash. These arrests were also part of the military's ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist and criminal networks and eliminate their freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area.
