Negeri Sembilan govt says adat dispute must follow proper channels

The state government of Negeri Sembilan has stated that any dispute involving customary and royal institutions must be resolved through proper channels and in accordance with the state constitution. Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim emphasized that the administration would continue functioning and would not interfere with the role of customary institutions in resolving matters.

He urged all parties to seek a solution that would restore harmony in the state and stressed that the government would respect the final decision made by institutions with jurisdiction under custom and the state constitution. The government also expressed its concern over safeguarding the dignity of customary and royal institutions.

Ismail called for the use of traditional values in resolving the current impasse and urged parties to defend adat while upholding the constitution, respecting the people's mandate, and protecting the institutions. Additionally, members of the state executive council (Exco) have reportedly been barred from entering their offices and performing official duties, which could disrupt the state administration.
