OpenAI to unveil GPT-6 Cyber model, plus a first-of-its-kind product to help deploy it

OpenAI is set to showcase its latest cybersecurity-focused model, GPT-6 Cyber, and a novel product designed to facilitate its deployment at an upcoming conference. The new product, not yet named, will be the first of its kind from OpenAI, following a similar approach they introduced with consumer products where ChatGPT acts as the entry point to models like GPT-6 Astra.

This move aims to assist businesses in automating workflows and safeguarding against sophisticated AI-powered cyberattacks while providing OpenAI with greater control over model usage for safety monitoring. The unveiling may occur at OpenAI’s Dev Day conference in San Francisco on Tuesday, September 29, or even earlier, with a launch anticipated in the coming months.

A select group of customers in OpenAI’s Daybreak Red cybersecurity program already have access to GPT-6 Cyber for testing. Daybreak Red is the top tier of OpenAI’s cybersecurity program, offering access to their most advanced cybersecurity offerings. Daybreak Blue, a more generalized access program, is also invitation-only. This new batch of cybersecurity tools marks OpenAI's fourth release this year, following GPT-5.4 Cyber in April, GPT-5.5 Cyber in June, and GPT-5.6 Cyber in August.

The company has been concentrating on enterprise sales of cybersecurity solutions, now under the guidance of Chief Revenue Officer Dali Rajic. OpenAI has pledged to invest $1 billion to subsidize the usage of its cybersecurity products for critical services. Additionally, the company plans to unveil a dozen or so other products at its annual DevDay event, most of which are unrelated to cybersecurity, but rather span various aspects of their business, both enterprise and consumer-focused.

In recent weeks, OpenAI has halted any major launches to focus on affordability-focused models GPT-6 Sol and Luna. CEO Sam Altman hinted at the array of new releases at DevDay via a tweet adorned with multiple ship emojis. Earlier this month, OpenAI announced their commitment to invest $1 billion to subsidize the use of cybersecurity products for critical services.
