N1.233tn recovered, 10,872 convictions secured in 34 months — EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered a staggering N1.233tn between October 1, 2023, and July 31, 2026, according to a recent report. This recovery figure was disclosed by the commission in a video posted on its official X account, marking the accomplishments of Chairman Ola Olukoyede during his tenure. The commission highlighted that 49,673 petitions were received over the 34-month period, serving as the entry point for EFCC action.

Of these, 39,615 cases were investigated, leading to 14,476 cases being filed in court and ultimately resulting in 10,872 convictions. The EFCC explained that these figures represented the relentless efforts to combat various forms of financial crimes, such as advance fee fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, bank fraud, and economic governance fraud.

Each number symbolized the dedication to uncover financial trails, recover public resources, and continue the fight against economic and financial crimes. The commission concluded by emphasizing that their work remains ongoing.
