EFCC recovers N1.233tn, secures 10,872 convictions in 34 months

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) reported that it successfully recovered an impressive N1.233 trillion and secured 10,872 convictions between October 1, 2023, and July 31, 2026. This significant achievement was disclosed in a video posted on the EFCC's official X account. The anti-graft agency attributed these accomplishments to the leadership of its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, over the past 34 months.

The EFCC received a total of 49,673 petitions from the public and other sources during this period to kickstart their investigative process. Out of the received petitions, 39,615 cases were thoroughly investigated, and 14,476 cases were subsequently filed before the courts. These investigations led to the convictions that were reported.

Over the span of three years and four months, the EFCC concentrated its efforts on combating a wide range of economic and financial crimes, which included advance-fee fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, bank fraud, and economic governance-related offenses. The commission emphasized that these figures represented much more than mere numbers, as each case involved extensive investigative work, tracing of financial transactions, and efforts to recover allegedly misappropriated public and private funds.
