Man sentenced to nearly 10 years for antisemitic threats against Rep. Randy Fine

A 26-year-old man named Edwin Guerrero has been sentenced to nine years and 11 months in federal prison for making threatening antisemitic comments and posts against US Representative Randy Fine and his two young sons. The charges against Guerrero were brought by the US Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida, who announced the sentence on Wednesday.

Guerrero pleaded guilty in March to making interstate threats to injure someone. Between August 10 and 15, 2024, Guerrero allegedly used social media to post a series of threatening messages aimed at Fine, who was then serving in the Florida House of Representatives, and his two minor sons. These posts included violent threats and references to the children as Jewish, often accompanied by images that suggested Guerrero was traveling to Brevard County with a firearm.

Some posts even contained pictures of a deceased man with significant head trauma. When questioned by investigators, Guerrero admitted to sending these threatening messages through his social media account while he was in Spain. At his sentencing, Judge Anne-Leigh Gaylord Moe noted that the threats were motivated by hate and emphasized the seriousness of such threats against Jews and elected officials.

Fine testified that Guerrero's threats had terrified him and his sons, stating that he was now concerned for their safety. Fine expressed his shock and fear in a subsequent X/Twitter post, alleging that his son David had returned home from junior high on August 14, 2024, to find police officers waiting for him. Fine called Guerrero a "Muslim terrorist" and claimed that Guerrero had threatened to kill him and his family.

Fine thanked various law enforcement agencies for their involvement in the case and stressed that such threats against elected officials or their families should send a strong message to potential offenders. US Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe added that threats against public officials or those targeted due to their political or religious beliefs would not be tolerated.

The FBI, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the US Attorney's Office all played roles in investigating and prosecuting this case.
