“It’s a life sentence for me” — Miriam Haley speaks after Weinstein’s 15-year sentence

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been handed a 15-year prison sentence for sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in New York in 2006. Haley spoke before the sentence was handed down, detailing the enduring impact the assault had on her life and her continued struggle for justice. "Being sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has left an indelible mark on my life and a sense of insecurity that may never dissipate," she stated.

She further explained that the ordeal had left her living with ongoing fear and intense scrutiny, concluding, "It’s a life sentence for me." Weinstein, 74, denied the allegations, claiming his innocence and requesting leniency. He expressed remorse for Haley's suffering but insisted he was not the perpetrator, stating, "I do have remorse for Miriam Haley’s pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence."

The 15-year sentence followed a retrial where Weinstein was found guilty of the assault against Haley but cleared of a separate charge involving former model Kaja Sokola. The jury could not reach a decision on a rape charge involving Jessica Mann. Weinstein is also currently serving a 16-year sentence in California for a rape conviction.
