I bear no hatred towards those who abandoned me, says El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has stated that he bears no animosity towards those who have abandoned him during his present difficulties. The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory made this assertion in a statement titled “My Relationships and the Aftermath,” which he shared on his X handle on Wednesday.

El-Rufai explained that he had previously supported people and causes based on his Islamic faith, Arewa upbringing, personal values, and conscience, without expecting any form of gratitude or reciprocity. He emphasized that the individuals he had supported were free to respond to his current situation as they pleased, whether it be speaking out, remaining silent, or severing ties.

El-Rufai acknowledged that some might speak, others may remain silent, and still others may try to rewrite history. He stressed that their reasons are their own, and he does not wish to judge them based on differing responses. The governor reflected on his relationships following recent adversity, noting that it may lead him to reconsider the nature of certain relationships and the expectations placed upon him.

El-Rufai reiterated that his reflection should not be seen as reproach or condemnation but as a deeper understanding of people and life. He expressed no regret for the support he provided when he believed it was the right thing to do, and clarified that he would not seek revenge or retribution for any perceived injustice, ingratitude, or injury.

Instead, he stated that ultimate accountability lies with Almighty Allah, and he leaves that judgment to Him. Ultimately, El-Rufai emphasized the importance of remaining at peace with his conscience and with Almighty Allah, acknowledging that each individual must live with the choices they make, and posterity will render whatever verdict it sees fit.
