Two arrested after allegedly taking Sh30,000 to kill EACC probe

Two women have been apprehended in Western Kenya for allegedly demanding KSh100,000 from an individual under investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). According to the commission, Hellen Hashiali Masinde and Violet Ndakwa, both residents of Kakamega County, were taken into custody after receiving KSh30,000 in payment.

The suspects reportedly claimed to possess connections within the EACC agency that could lead to the termination of the ongoing investigation. The two were apprehended on the day they received the KSh30,000, as reported by the EACC. The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) believes the suspects are part of a larger group of fraudsters active in the Western Region who either impersonate EACC officials or falsely assert their ability to influence matters under investigation by the Commission.

The suspects were taken to the EACC's Western Regional Office for processing before being handed over to the Bungoma Central Police Station for further investigation. The Commission has warned the public against making payments to individuals who claim they can sway EACC investigations or similar proceedings. It has urged anyone approached by such individuals to report them to the commission promptly.

The EACC has not disclosed whether the individual who allegedly paid the money is the subject of a specific corruption offense or provided additional details about the underlying investigation.
