I bear no hatred towards those who abandoned me, says El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has clarified his stance on the silence of some of his former colleagues, friends, and family members since his current situation. In a statement titled “My Relationships and the Aftermath,” El-Rufai expressed that he does not harbor hatred or resentment towards those who have not stood by him.

He explained that his decisions to support people and causes were based on his Islamic faith, Arewa upbringing, personal values, and conscience, rather than expecting praise or reciprocity.

Over the years, El-Rufai supported individuals and causes, even in difficult circumstances and at considerable personal cost, without seeking any form of gratitude in return, as he believed it was the right thing to do. He acknowledged that those who supported him were free to choose how they would respond to his current circumstances, which could include speaking out, remaining silent, or distancing themselves from previous relationships.

El-Rufai also noted that those who have chosen to distance themselves from him may have their reasons, and he does not wish to judge them based on differing responses. He reflected on his own relationships, stating that adversity often sheds light on the nature of these relationships. He emphasized that this reflection should not be seen as condemnation but as a way of seeing people and life more clearly.

The governor expressed no regret for his past actions, as he believed standing by people and causes when he thought it was right was the right course of action. He reiterated that he would not seek revenge or retribution for any perceived injustices or ingratitude, believing that ultimate accountability belongs to Almighty Allah. El-Rufai concluded by emphasizing that his priority is to remain at peace with his conscience and with Almighty Allah.
