Former Tabung Haji COO Adi Azuan charged with receiving RM302,000 in house renovations

Shah Alam—Former Tabung Haji chief operating officer Datuk Adi Azuan Abdul Ghani entered a not guilty plea at the Sessions Court today to three charges of corruption linked to RM302,000 in house renovations. The 56-year-old faced Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud, with claim trial for all allegations. Adi Azuan allegedly took RM235,866.58, RM50,698.74, and RM15,933.95 in renovation expenses for three properties in Shah Alam, Kota Damansara, and Subang Jaya.

He is accused of receiving the works from Thamsulazri Ismail, a director at AG Reka Sdn Bhd whose connections to his public duties were questionable. The alleged acts occurred on March 7, 2017, at the three locations. Conviction under Section 165 of the Penal Code carries a maximum two-year jail term, fine, or both. Deputy Prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin argued for bail at RM70,000 with one surety, but Defense Counsel Wan Azwan Aiman Wan Fakhruddin requested a lower RM30,000 with two sureties.

The court set bail at RM50,000 with two sureties, requiring Adi Azuan to surrender his passport. The case is set to return for mention on November 25.
