Ex-Tabung Haji COO charged over RM302,499 in home renovation costs

Former Tabung Haji chief operating officer Datuk Adi Azuan Abdul Ghani has been charged in a Shah Alam court with three counts of allegedly receiving RM302,499.27 worth of home renovation costs from a director of a construction company nine years ago. Adi Azuan, 56, pleaded not guilty to the charges, which are alleged to have taken place in March 2017.

The prosecution claims that Adi Azuan, as a public servant, was aware of the director's connection to business conducted by him. The charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code carry a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. Deputy Public Prosecutor Muaz Ahmad Khairuddin requested a RM70,000 bail, but Adi Azuan's defense lawyers sought a lower amount, citing his health issues and the fact that he is no longer the COO of Tabung Haji.

The court granted Adi Azuan bail of RM50,000 with two Malaysian sureties, requiring him to report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and surrender his international passport. The case is set to be heard again on November 25.
