FG unveils online discount platform for serving, retired military personnel

The Federal Government has unveiled an online discount platform aimed at providing essential goods at reduced prices to serving and retired military personnel, along with their families. The initiative, known as the Armed Forces Online Discount Shop, was officially launched in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

Akume emphasized the importance of supporting the well-being of military personnel, stating that the welfare of these individuals extends beyond their operational capabilities. He also highlighted the significance of including veterans and their families in the scheme, acknowledging their sacrifices and contributions. The launch of the platform is also seen as a collaboration between technology, strategic partnerships, and public welfare, according to Akume.

The online discount shop, which operates through the Konga platform, will enable eligible personnel and their families to access a range of products at discounted prices, thereby easing financial pressures and enhancing their quality of life. The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Olufemi Oluyede, expressed the Armed Forces' commitment to the welfare of its personnel, veterans, and families, mentioning that this scheme would be the first of several initiatives planned within the next three months to further improve their welfare in line with the "Soldier First" leadership principle.

The initiative also includes potential partnerships with major companies like Dangote Group and BUA Cement to provide access to building materials and other essential goods.
