'Failing, chaotic, musical chairs': Teams slam Asian Games organisers

Several teams have criticized the organisation of the Asian Games in Japan, with Thailand likening it to a chaotic game of musical chairs and South Korea giving it a failing grade. The primary issue at the Aichi-Nagoya Games has been a shortage of accommodation for the 17,000 participants, who are staying in temporary container-style huts, hotels, and the Costa Serena cruise ship.

The number of rooms available on the ships and hotels did not match the actual number of athletes, leading to confusion and relocations on multiple occasions. Delays at airports and on the cruise ship, as well as unreliable transport services, have further exacerbated the situation. The Thailand team had to rent additional vehicles from Tokyo to reach their medical team in Nagoya.

South Korea has consistently criticized the organisers, with a Korean Sport and Olympic Committee official stating that the problems were affecting athletes' performances and giving the games an F grade. The Asian Games organising committee has admitted to the issues and stated they are working to improve services, but no event has been delayed.
