Eriksen leaves Wolfsburg by mutual consent

Christian Eriksen, the Danish international midfielder, has left Wolfsburg by mutual agreement, just over three months after suffering a collapse during a friendly match against Ukraine. The 34-year-old's contract with the German second-tier club was due to run until June 2027. Eriksen, who previously experienced a cardiac arrest during Denmark's opening European Championship match against Finland in 2021, stated that he wanted to be close to his family in Denmark at the moment.

He expressed his satisfaction with the mutual agreement, acknowledging the highs and lows his time at Wolfsburg. The midfielder, who made 34 appearances for the club since joining as a free agent a year ago, has also played for Ajax, Tottenham, Inter Milan, and Brentford. Eriksen, a 151-cap international, praised Wolfsburg's direction and expressed confidence in the club's future success.

Wolfsburg's managing director for sport, Dieter Hecking, confirmed that the decision regarding Eriksen's future was his own, and they respected his wish to terminate the contract, acknowledging his impact on the team, staff, and fans.
