Eriksen leaves Wolfsburg by mutual consent

Christian Eriksen has departed Wolfsburg by mutual agreement, following his collapse during Denmark's friendly match against Ukraine earlier this year. The 34-year-old midfielder's contract with the German club was set to expire in June 2027. Eriksen had previously experienced a cardiac arrest during Denmark's opening European Championship game against Finland in 2021.

In a recent statement, Eriksen expressed his desire to be with his family in Denmark and appreciated the opportunity to find a solution together. He acknowledged that his time at Wolfsburg was filled with both positive and challenging moments. He also expressed confidence in the club's future as it continues to work towards returning to the Bundesliga.

Eriksen, who made 34 appearances for Wolfsburg since joining as a free agent a year ago, has represented Denmark 151 times. Prior to his time at Wolfsburg, he played for Ajax, Tottenham, Inter Milan, and Brentford. Wolfsburg's managing director for sport, Dieter Hecking, confirmed that the decision regarding Eriksen's future was ultimately his own.

The club agreed to his request to terminate the contract during a challenging period in his life. Hecking emphasized that Eriksen has left a lasting impression on his teammates, staff, and fans despite his short tenure at the club.
