Cheras landslide displaces 80 residents; families wait on safety verdict before returning home

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — Evacuation of residents affected by the landslide at Block D of Damai Perdana Apartments in Bandar Damai Perdana, Cheras, will hinge on structural safety assessments, according to Kajang Municipal Council Councillor Tan Kah Hoe. Investigations initiated yesterday and continuing today involve the Public Works Department, Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Minerals and Geoscience Department, and Kajang Municipal Council.

Tan requested expedited completion of the technical report, estimating it would take a few days. Water supply disruptions in the four-block complex, housing 360 units, saw restoration to Blocks A and B this morning, though Block D remains without water, with restoration further delayed as authorities identify the affected pipeline.

As of yesterday, 15 local families were staying at the temporary relief centre, an increase from the initial four families. The Social Welfare Department manages accommodation and meals for the affected residents, while police provide security assistance at the affected homes. On Tuesday, an estimated 80 residents from 45 units in Block D were evacuated following a landslide believed to have been triggered by an underground water leak.
