‘Abducted’ on way to vote, man traced within hours after Rajasthan High Court order

On September 21, the Rajasthan High Court took urgent action when a man named Vijay Kumar was allegedly abducted while on his way to vote for the Sri Vijaynagar municipal chairperson election. The court ordered the police to locate Kumar and ensure he could cast his vote before 5 pm. Kumar was eventually traced and given the opportunity to vote, which allowed the court to dismiss the petition on September 22.

This case involved a habeas corpus petition filed by Kumar's wife, Shashi, who claimed that unknown individuals had opened fire at three voters and forcibly abducted them near Bajuwala. The court directed the superintendent of police to trace Kumar by 4 pm, ensuring he could participate in the election, which had its polling deadline extended to 5 pm.

Two other men who were also abducted with Kumar were traced and had already cast their votes. The court's action was taken despite it being a holiday on Baba Ramdev Jayanti due to the critical nature of the time-sensitive situation.
