BREAKING: Court Nullifies Ex-Minister Pantami’s PDP Ticket, Orders Fresh Governorship Primary In Gombe

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has announced plans to hold a new governorship primary election following a ruling by the Federal High Court that overturned the original results that selected former Communications Minister Isa Ali Pantami as the party's candidate for the 2027 election. Haruna Mohammed Jungudo, the PDP's National Publicity Secretary, stated that the party will meticulously review the court's decision and adhere to its instructions.

The court, located in Gombe, invalidated Pantami's candidacy and instructed the party to organize a fresh primary within a 30-day timeframe. The court's decision came after an election suit filed by PDP aspirant Usman Aliyu Garry, who contended that the initial selection process did not align with the PDP's guidelines and electoral rules.

Pantami initially won the primary by voice affirmation in May 2026, after switching from the All Progressives Congress. Jungudo emphasized the party's dedication to internal democracy, due process, and compliance with its constitution, electoral rules, and applicable laws. He assured that the PDP remains dedicated to maintaining internal democracy, following proper procedures, and respecting the law.

The party pledged to study the court's judgment closely and promptly initiate the necessary steps to organize the new primary election. Jungudo urged all PDP members, supporters, and stakeholders in Gombe State to stay calm, law-abiding, and united during this transition.
